Today’s roofs are far from just merely shingle mats attached to a roof deck, and they are more like a precisely engineered system that protects your home from practically anything nature can throw at it. One such system is the popular GAF Lifetime Roofing System. In the following video, Quality Assurance Roofing gives you an inside look at this amazing system that is exclusively available from a GAF Master Elite® roofing contractor.
To prepare for new roof installation, an existing roof will be removed all the way down to the roof deck and thoroughly inspected for signs of water damage and other issues that might affect the new roof’s performance. Repairs will then be performed.
GAF Lifetime Roofing System Installation
The roof is installed in the following order:
Leak barrier – Leak barriers are a separate part of the waterproofing system that seal vulnerable areas, such as roof peaks, joints and edges – basically the parts where flashing is needed.
Roof deck protection – GAF’s roof deck protection is more than just the typical roofing felt or underlayment. In addition to protecting the roof deck from moisture infiltration, it also prevents wind-driven rain as well as allows deck moisture to dry.
Starter strip shingles – The edges of a typical residential roofing installation are vulnerable to wind damage and are a common entry point for water intrusion. The first row of shingles is traditionally just the same as the rest of the roof. GAF uses specialized starter strip shingles that come in roll form, match the rest of the roof and are reinforced using special adhesives.
Lifetime shingles – Lifetime shingles are then installed, starting from the roof edge to the ridges. It requires proper installation techniques to ensure exceptional performance, which is why the Lifetime Roofing System is exclusively available though GAF Master Elite contractors like us.
Attic ventilation – Proper attic ventilation is essential to keeping heat and moisture from getting trapped in the attic, which could cause structural damage to the trusses, rafters and roof deck as well as the attic insulation. GAF uses the specially designed Cobra® Attic Ventilation, which ensures proper air circulation in the attic.
Ridge caps – Matching ridge caps crown the attic ventilation at the ridges, creating a flawless look. Unlike traditional techniques where the ridges are covered using cut-up shingles, the GAF Lifetime Roofing System has its own specially designed caps.
