Important but Little-Known Facts About Hailstorms

It’s difficult to tell if a hailstorm is coming. Most people think that hailstorms are less likely in summer, but that’s not entirely accurate. This is just one of the many mistaken assumptions homeowners have about hailstorms, and, often, these assumptions are costly.

To debunk them, Quality Assurance Roofing, a top roofer in the state, lists the things you may not know about hailstorms.

Hailstorms Are Still Possible in Summer

Shouldn’t hailstorms be less likely in summer, given the season’s high temperatures? First off, hail is formed in the upper atmosphere, which tends to be colder than lower atmospheric layers. Rising air currents carry droplets of water high enough in the atmosphere until they freeze and form hail. Another prerequisite is hot and volatile surface temperatures, a common occurrence in summer.

In fact, hailstorms are likely to occur in mid-latitude countries in early summer. And, that means you need to prepare your home, especially your roofing system, for them.

Roof Inspections Are One of Your Primary Means of Defence Against Hail Damage

The damage to your roof depends on the size of the hailstones. The stronger the air currents, the larger the hailstones.

Since it’s hard for homeowners to predict the severity of hailstorms, it’s best to have a roofing contractor inspect your roof for any signs of damage. After all, your home is more likely to suffer damage if it already has preexisting damage, no matter how minor it is.

Signs of Hailstorm Damage Are Easy to Overlook

We also recommend having a certified contractor inspect your roof after a hailstorm, regardless of whether there are visible signs of damage or not. It takes a trained eye to spot all the signs of hailstorm damage. Left unattended, relatively minor damage can quickly worsen.

Quality Assurance Roofing, an Owens Corning® Preferred Platinum Contractor, offers roof repair and inspection services.  To get free quote, call us at (479) 279-8500, or fill out this form. We serve homeowners in Arkansas.
